Scope:This Recommended Practice applies only to machines covered by SAE J1040c (ROPS). The evaluations are for resistance to localized penetration. The performance requirements, of a representative specimen within the manufacturer's specifications, are based on the performance of experience proven structures under the laboratory evaluation procedure. 【摘要】:Crudeoil,petroleum,petroleumproducts,additives,andlubricantsareroutinelyanalyzedfortheirelementalcontentsuchaschlorine,nitrogen,phosphorus,sulfur,andvariousmetalsusingavarietyofanalyticaltechniques.Someofthesetestmethodsrequirelittletonosamplepreparation;someothersrequireonlysimpledilutions;whileothersrequireelaboratesampledecompositionbeforetheproductisanalyzedforitselementalcontent.Fairlyoftenitcanbeshownthattheroundrobinresultsbyaco-operatorareallbiasedwithrespecttothosefromotherlaboratories.Presumably,thefailuretofollowgoodlaboratorypracticesandinstructionsinthetestmethodscanbeacausalfactorofsucherrors.Afurtherconsequenceisanunnecessarilylargereproducibilityestimateorthedatabeingdroppedfromthestudyasanoutlier.Uniformpracticeforsamplepreparationisbeneficialinstandardizingtheproceduresandobtainingconsistentresultsacrossthelaboratories.1.1Thispracticecoversdifferentmeansbywhichpetroleumproductandlubricantsamplesmaybepreparedbeforethemeasurementoftheirelementalcontentusingdifferentanalyticaltechniques.1.2Thispracticeincludesonlythebasicstepsforgenerallyencounteredsampletypes.Anythingoutoftheordinarymayrequirespecialprocedures.Seeindividualtestmethodsforinstructionstohandlesuchsituations.1.3Thispracticeisnotasubstituteforathoroughunderstandingoftheactualtestmethodtobeused,caveatsthetestmethodcontains,andadditionalsamplepreparationthatmayberequired.1.4Theusershouldnotexpandthescopeofthetestmethodstomaterialsorconcentrationsoutsidethescopeofthetestmethodsbeingusedwithoutthoroughlyunderstandingtheimplicationsofsuchdeviations.1.5Thispracticemayalsobeapplicabletosamplepreparationofnon-petroleumbasedbio-fuelsforelementalanalysis.Currently,workisongoinginASTMSubcommitteeD02.03;asinformationbecomesavailable,itwillbeaddedtothisstandard.1.6ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.Nootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthisstandard.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
